Bruno Mars shouts out ‘Bay Area baddies’ in long-awaited return to region, sells out Levi’s Stadium shows

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KRON) — A decade ago, millions of people watched Bruno Mars perform his megahit “Uptown Funk” on the Super Bowl 50 halftime show with Beyoncé and Coldplay.

It happened at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara — the site of back-to-back sold-out Bruno Mars concerts 10 years later.

In a full-circle moment, Bruno Mars returned to the same venue and finished Saturday’s concert with the same song, “Uptown Funk.”

The 41-year-old singer made his long-awaited return to the Bay Area on Saturday, Oct. 10 at the 49ers’ home stadium, opening the show with "Risk It All," the lead song of his 2026 album "The Romantic."

In those 10 years that have passed since the South Bay performances, if it’s even possible, Mars might’ve been 10 times bigger than he was then. Mars, whose real name is Peter Hernandez, is the arguably biggest male pop solo act today; his nearly 130 million monthly listeners tops Spotify.

Bruno Mars gave shoutouts to the "Bay Area baddies," a nicer sound to it compared to another city on his world tour.

The concert did so by showing off the female members of the audience with the "Angel Baby Cam." The artist, known for his love songs, catered much of the night to swoon the thousands of women in the crowd.

The approximately two-hour set had a mix of songs from all of Mars' five studio albums. Fans were taken back in time towards the end of the show with a piano medley of throwbacks from 2012 and earlier: "It Will Rain," "Talking To The Moon," "Grenade" and "When I Was Your Man."

Saturday ended nearly a decade-long hiatus of performing in the Bay Area for the 16-time Grammy-winning artist. In 2018, he headlined the BottleRock Napa Valley music festival. Before that, Mars performed in 2017 at the then-Oracle Arena in Oakland for the 24K Magic World Tour.
