Fire crews made overnight progress battling the Danny Fire, which had closed down both sides of the 5 Freeway through the Grapevine near Gorman on Thursday.
The California Highway Patrol reported it had closed both directions at Smokey Bear, as well as the westbound 138 Freeway leading to the 5 Freeway.
Cal Fire said the flames spread to 150 acres by 5:50 p.m., but firefighters had contained 13% of it.
Firefighters also issued evacuation orders and warnings for several areas.
By Friday morning, both sides of the 5 Freeway had opened with containment rising to 29%, according to the Angeles National Forest.
