INDIANAPOLIS — A family-owned chocolate and milkshake shop is celebrating National Chocolate Day on Wednesday with new treats and a nod to its 112-year history.

MilkShake Factory, which has two Indiana locations, is introducing special products for the chocolate holiday.

“We’re really excited to introduce our Chocolate Birthday Cake Pop and Marshmallow Cinnamon Crunch Bark for National Chocolate Day,” said Leah Snow, a MilkShake Factory representative. “It’s a great way to celebrate our roots as a chocolate company.”

The business began in 1914 as a gourmet chocolate factory in Pennsylvania.

In 2003, the fourth-generation family business shifted its focus to hand-spun milkshakes while continuing to use its original chocolate recipes.

“Everything is still handmade,” Snow said. “We handcraft our chocolates and hand-spin every milkshake using our family’s original recipes.”

The menu includes cookie bark, which Snow said is the most popular item among children. Other offerings include chocolate-dipped strawberries, Dubai pistachios, s’mores crunch and popcorn crunch.

MilkShake Factory has two Indiana locations: one on 36th Street in Avon and another on East 86th Street in Nora, in front of Target.

The company also offers a rewards program for frequent customers.
