COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) says it has arrested a suspect in a robbery investigation on North Academy Boulevard.

According to CSPD, several suspects allegedly stole items from a retail store in the 7100 block of North Academy Boulevard on November 4. CSPD says when the suspects were confronted by the staff, one of the suspects assaulted an employee and then fled.

On November 6, retailers at a store in 3800 block of Bloomington Street say they saw the same suspect allegedly stealing from their store and notified CSPD's Retail, Pawn and Metal Theft Unit.

CSPD says officers intercepted the suspect as he was leaving the store with the alleged stolen merchandise.

The suspect, 35-year-old Christopher Powers, was then arrested and now faces charges including robbery and theft.

According to officials, a second suspect had fled the scene and was located a short distance away and contacted by CSPD. They say they don't believe that person's involvement in the case is criminal, but the investigation is ongoing.
