Week in Review: Pritzker Wins Third Term; Welch Out as Illinois House Speaker Nick Blumberg

Gov. JB Pritzker sails to victory in his bid for a rare third term.

The governor trounces former state lawmaker Darren Bailey again — this time by more than 22 points, according to unofficial results.

Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton makes history in her election, becoming just the sixth Black woman to serve in the U.S. Senate. Illinois will be the first state to send two women of color to serve in that chamber.

Jessica Biggs wins the first-ever race for Chicago school board president — with the potential for battles ahead with the Chicago Teachers Union, whose preferred candidate she handily beat.

Meanwhile, Illinois House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch says he’ll step aside after 26 Democrats revolt, calling for someone else to take the top job.
